One Year Bible - February 2

Scriptures to read:
Luke 23:26-56; Genesis 42; Psalm 33
Confession doesn’t come easy for me, and I bet the same goes for you. Could it be because we feel shame, fear of punishment, or feel vulnerable, guilty? I know I spend way too much energy trying to appear perfect. In our passage today David addresses this and helps us understand it better. His prayer is an example for us, showing the benefits of confessing our sin.
First of all, this passage says we are blessed, (“truly happy!”) when we confess. It’s important to note that true happiness comes not from being sinless but rather from being forgiven. Hiding our sin is like carrying a big rock around with us. It’s a burden until we confess it. Holding sin inside causes us pain, (physically and emotionally). When David finally confesses to God, he is then forgiven and free of the guilt of sin. His burden is lifted and the “rock has been dropped”. David is encouraging us to do the same.
David also suggests that we pray especially during hard times to avoid feeling overwhelmed like a flood.
I’m trying to focus on God’s love and grace as my righteousness, rather than perfection. Nothing can bring me more joy and peace then knowing God’s forgiveness.
Memory Verse: So I admitted my sin to you; I didn’t conceal my guilt. ‘I’ll confess my sins to the Lord,” is what I said. Then you removed the guilt of my sin. - Psalm 32:15
Prayer: Father, thank you for loving us first. Help us to seek your forgiveness, rather than striving for perfection. Help us to run to your “hiding place” for help during hard times. May we respond to your loving care and sacrifice for us, by confessing our sins to you. Amen
