Scriptures to read:

Luke 19:1-27; Genesis 32-33; Psalm 25

In the almost ONE YEAR we’ve been on various shelter in place orders, I have to admit it was the sourdough craze that really tipped me over the edge in my feeling of utter unaccomplishment. I hadn’t taken up running! I absolutely hadn’t yet learned a language. Cataloging and organizing my online photos? Forget about it. And putting olives or rosemary in bread?! I hadn’t even gotten to the starter.

It’s been easy to feel this way, hasn’t it? Unaccomplished as we see friends and family doing all the things? As if having extra time at home would offer us respite from the business of life and we’d have all the time in the world to fulfill our lifelong goals we’d put off until “we just had the time”. It’s not this way for all of us (and for those of you it is: Yes! Keep going!).

Today’s parable in John 19 pricked my heart, though, as I was reminded about how God does want us to use our time wisely. Without a daily commute, I DO have space to spend extra time in the Word each morning. Without a 2-hour shuttle ride home, I have time to take a prayer walk with Him in the afternoon. Perhaps you have less activities to drive the kids to and from. How are you using those small moments (between homeschooling and swapping Zoom backgrounds!) to connect with God more deeply, developing a ritual for time well spent with Him? When all is said and done and we’re back at it, He will honor you for it!

And, though I will still buy my bread and walk more than I run, I’m leaning into the time God has given me while I’m home to see Him more clearly and know Him more deeply. Because, even better than a gift of 10 cities is knowing I’ve multiplied what my Savior has graciously given to me and put my “money (time) to work”.

Memory Verse: Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities. - Luke 19:17

Prayer: Lord, remind me daily to find my peace, comfort, and accomplishment in You alone. Encourage my heart again to pursue you in the small moments this time at home is offering.
