Scriptures to read:

Matthew 6:19-34; Exodus 35:1-36:38; Proverbs 16

I love how God works. Of all the commands He so generously gives in the Gospels, His explanation of, “Do Not Worry” (Matt. 6: 25-34) is the most convicting to me. It seems to me, that’s all I do, and have done for as long as I can remember is worry. Worry, doubt, ruminating, and the “obsession of the mind,” is what I believe to be my greatest sin. I’ve thought to myself, “how did I get myself in this place?” I know better, if I have a conscious connection to my Higher Power, who I call Jesus Christ, why do I battle with perpetual worry?  My King didn’t come to Earth to mock or make us sit in our mud pile of filth, He gave us a way out. The only real way out.  He tells us, as clear as day, “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” (Matt. 6:25) Here, we have the Lord’s word for it; do not worry. This means we can step off the hamster wheel of worry, we can peel our hands from over our eyes, and see with palms up, there’s a whole world around us, not just our “little dot” view of reality.

There’s a better World waiting for us, where we can forever not worry. “But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem.”(Heb. 12:22a) Only in Christ can we have access to this way out, and there’s no VIP, all are welcome. It’s the Holy Spirit’s invitation to, “…seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matt.6:33)

I know for me, I’m deeply humbled to be a part of a church that speaks to my soul, penetrates my heart, and to put in modern-day Bay Area terms, “I vibe with.” I can see the Holy Spirit’s hand on New North in our mission and vision, and how we’re executing that out in their services, worship, and partnerships. May we own it for ourselves that we’ve accepted this way out, so we can freely and graciously give it to others.

Memory Verse: But store up for yourselves treasure in Heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. - Matthew 6:20

Prayer: Lord, I give my life to you. You have always blessed me beyond measure. Forgive me for not putting my trust in you and at times doubting that you will provide. You have never let me down and you continue to go before me in all ways. I yearn for your presence in my life and I know you hold me in the palm of your hand.
