Scriptures to read:

Luke 24:13-53; Genesis 44; Psalm 35

What’s the best thing you did or felt in the past day? And why? Take a minute to think about it.

Was it easy to come up with something? Okay. Now do the same thing, but think about this past week.

Was that easier? Harder?

Now think about the past year. What were your highest highs? How easy is it to have a highest height when most days feel the same?

We’ve been in this pandemic for almost a year, and there are definitely days I struggle with looking at the good things that are happening. That doesn’t mean they aren’t there, but I’m sometimes left feeling beaten down by the stresses of “regular” life.

One of today’s passages happened at the height of a famine in the land. Our second passage speaks of a psalmist who is under attack. I don’t have a nicely packaged way of tying them together other than the fact that these are all definitely hard times one can face, and think about all the feelings that go with it…

Our last passage kind of starts in a difficult place as well. Jesus, the guy who was meant to redeem Israel, just died. And on top of that, his body disappeared. Like the men on the road to Emmaus, we can look at what’s going on around us and not realize who is right there with us. These guys were made to not recognize Jesus in the moment… Do we have an excuse if we’re not seeing him now?

I’m writing this knowing that this is what I need to ask myself and my own heart. My prayer is that you all can see Him, because we’re not quite out of the woods yet. But until then, let’s think about the highest heights. Even if they’re baby heights. Because if we know Jesus, he won’t leave us. And that’s a lot to be happy about.

Memory Verse: My tongue will proclaim your righteousness, your praises all day long. - Psalm 35:28

Prayer: Lord, help us. You know we need it. Let us see you through any difficulties we may be facing. Because you and your love are bigger and better than it all.
