One Year Bible - February 10

Scriptures to read:
Hebrews 7; Exodus 3:1-4:31; Psalm 41
I love a good brainstorming session when visions are cast and ideas flow. There’s little that’s more rewarding than coming up with a workable plan. Yet more often than I care to admit, I’m the one who can shut it down with a simple, two-letter word: no. It’s like slamming the brakes on a train going 100 miles an hour – not a good thing.
I’m working on this. I’m becoming more self-aware (or listening to those who are making me aware). I’m trying to keep my mouth shut and listen more. And the thing is, when you don’t say no, crazy ideas that may make no sense at all become creative solutions. It’s actually quite energizing and exciting to say, “yes, and” instead of no.
That conversation Moses had with God in front of the burning bush felt familiar to me. Moses was not in a yes, and posture as God laid out the plan for releasing the Israelites from Egypt. His may not have been a full-on no. It was more of a yes, but.
But who am I to go to Pharaoh?
But what if they don’t believe me?
But I’m not a good speaker.
But, can’t you send someone else?
Being the great Team Leader that God is, He allowed Moses to ask his questions. There was no need for brainstorming, though, because God anticipated the yes, but questions and had the responses all prepared.
Moses ultimately said, “yes, and.” And we know how the story ends. It was not an easy plan to fulfill. I hope that as God lays out plans in front of me, I’ll move away from an immediate no, pass the yes, but, and land on the yes, and.
Memory Verse: And God said,”I will be with you.” - Exodus 3:12a
Prayer: Father, please help me with my mentality and being open to your direction in my life. I trust that you will equip me for whatever you have in store for me today, tomorrow, or any time in the future. Open my mind to creative solutions and different perspectives. Amen.
