Series
Teach Us to Pray | October 19, 2025
Speaker
Zohary Ross
Pastor Zohary Ross kicks off a new sermon series on The Lord’s Prayer. This first sermon unpacks the opening line “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name” reminding us that how we pray depends on how we see God. Do you talk to God like you know Him? Discover what it means to approach prayer as a beloved child, fully known and welcomed by your holy Father.
Discussion Questions:
Zohary stated, " We live in an age that cares about names, reputation, image credibility. We want our name to stand for something impressive, trustworthy, or admirable."
Tell us the story of how you were given your name.
Zohary stated, "We have this amazing thing: Jesus shares His status as Son with us. We are invited to look to God as Father just as Jesus does--with the same intimacy." Why do you suppose Jesus teaches His disciples to pray with the first thing out of the gate being naming God as "our Father"?
Zohary also claims that Jesus teaches us to pray, not leading off "with our needs but with God's character." Which attributes of our Heavenly Father's character come to mind in this context?
Consider our Heavenly Father's perspective: what does He see that we cannot?
How can I lift up our Heavenly Father's reputation with my interactions with other people this week?
Zohary warned us to guard how we represent His name in our lives. What do you think she was driving at?
In the sermon Zohary repeated that we sometimes enter prayer with a greater awareness of our problems than with an awareness of who God is. In your prayers this week, try starting by naming what you see about God before asking Him to meet your needs or the needs of other people.
