This week’s message from Pastor Rob through Manoah’s prayer in Judges 13, speaks to all of us, but it’s a special reminder for parents. One of the greatest responsibilities we have as parents is to prioritize prayer.
Discussion Questions:
Warm up:
- Pastor Rob reminded us that God has given us everything we need to live a Godly life (as parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc) through giving us His Word, the Holy Spirit, and His church. What is one thing you are thankful to God for giving you that has equipped, encouraged, or helped you to get through the week?
- Maybe it was a good night’s sleep, an encouraging text from a friend, etc. Take time to acknowledge one moment of gratitude.
Reflect on the Message
- Pastor Rob asked the congregation to think through any area of our lives where we are getting in the way of God’s plan due to our own expectations, preferences, dreams/desires, etc. Are there any areas of your life where your “plan” for your family, your marriage, your career, your children’s lives, etc. might not be aligned with God’s plan? Share with the group.
Scripture Engagement - Read Judges 13:1-14
- What stood out to you from Sunday’s message/ the passage?
- What is one “long forgotten prayer” that this week’s sermon reminded you of?
Personal Connection
- Is it difficult to keep praying even when you do not know or understand what God is doing?
- What helps encourage you to keep praying?
Practical Application
- How might God be inviting you to grow in your prayer life this week?
- Is there a spiritual daughter or son that God could be calling you to mentor OR a spiritual mother or father God could be asking you to seek out? Take time this week to send a text, schedule a coffee, etc. and share what God has been doing in your life/pray together.
Group Prayer Time
- Is there a prodigal son, daughter, friend, etc in your life that you feel compelled to pray for? Pick a time to set up a reminder on your phone to pray for them throughout the week.
- Take time to share more deeply over a “long forgotten prayer” and pray together.
