Scriptures to read:
Luke 14:25-35; Genesis 26; Psalm 19

As I write this, I’m feeling what I imagine many of you are feeling as well, kind of hopeless. Not inspired or optimistic, tiptoeing our way through 2021. I have a lot to be thankful for but it is easy to forget all of that with the flurry of activity that seems to be shot out of the social media firehose every day. And then I read Luke 14 and was thinking about the man Jesus healed. The Pharisees were looking to catch him doing something they could charge him with and Jesus thwarts their intentions and heals a man all in the same act. This man has no name, no discernible attributes other than his maladies. And Jesus makes this man’s life bearable in an instant. I can only imagine the joy this man felt in that moment and the gratitude he had for his savior. He was whole again. An ailment that plagued him for who knows how long. That’s what I’m keeping with me this week. That Jesus loves the nameless swollen man on the street. Jesus loves you, no matter what nonsense is happening in the world around you. Don’t forget that life altering fact. Jesus loves the nameless. Jesus loves the afflicted. Jesus loves, and it is by this great love that he has healed out wounds and paid the price for our sins. Let’s live in light of that today and remember that Jesus paid that price on the cross.

A prayer of unbelief,

God I know you are all powerful,

God I know you are Good,

God I know you hear me,

God I know that you love me,

But God help me to believe that.

God help me to live that.

Amen.

Memory Verse: May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. - Psalm 19:14

Prayer: God I know you are all powerful, God I know you are Good, God I know you hear me, God I know that you love me, But God help me to believe that. God help me to live that. Amen.
