This Sunday, Pastor Zohary Ross closed out our 5-week sermon series, Come Holy Spirit, with a powerful message on what it means to be a Spirit-filled church, a community that lives in step with, empowered by, and expectant of the Holy Spirit. Preaching from Acts 2, she invited us to examine our hearts and consider: Are we truly devoted to God above all else? Do we gather with a holy anticipation that God will move among us?

We were reminded that the early church wasn’t just marked by signs and wonders—it was marked by deep devotion, radical generosity, and Spirit-led unity. Together, we prayed over every generation, asking God to renew His presence in our lives and empower us to be the kind of church the world needs—a Spirit-filled church.

Let’s be the kind of church that’s not just gathered, but empowered—not just attending, but expecting. Imagine what God could do through a church like that.

Community Group Questions:

What is your earliest memory of going to church? How has your perspective of church changed since then?

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think the devotion of the early church marked them as different in the midst of their culture? What about this kind of persistence and devotion might make Christians look different in our culture?
  2. In a region like the Bay Area—rich in resources but often spiritually starved—what would it look like to redefine “enough”? Could it create space in your life to give more freely and love more deeply?
  3. How can we do this (in reality not in an unrealistic or purely idealist sense) today in our daily lives in the twenty first century?
  4. What shifts in your life might you need to make in order to be the kind of person who both hears about the needs of others and has the capacity/desire to fill them?
  5. How is it challenging to be hospitable and generous? What needs to change in your life in order for you to live move open handed and radically generous?
  6. Read Rev 2: 4-5 What do you need to do to return to your first love?

Pray:

Take time to pray for each other for healing, heart change or anything else God is prompting you to bring to the table. Take communion together if you can. Remember, things shift when we expect the Lord to show up.
