Pastor Rob concludes our series The Jesus Way: Journey Through the Sermon on the Mount with Matthew 7:24-29 where Jesus teaches us to build our lives on Him by hearing and obeying His words. What foundation have you built your life upon?
John Mark Comer put it this way, “Transformation is possible if we are willing to arrange our lives around the practices, rhythms, and truths that Jesus himself did, which will open up our lives to God’s power to change.”
Warm Up:
- We just finished the Sermon on the Mount. What portion of the sermon made the deepest impact on you or seemed fresh this time through?
Read Matthew 7:24-29
- Why would someone choose to build their life “house” on sand?
- What kinds of decisions in your life have determined the “building blocks” of your life house the most?
- Rob says that Jesus is actually referring to two different kinds of storms: the first is the storm of life circumstances, and the second is the storm of ultimate judgement. How does this change the way you view both your own life and the lives of the people around you… especially those who don’t know Jesus?
- Which of the five practices Rob mentioned do you think you need to adopt in your life?
- Meditation on Jesus’ teaching
- Generosity
- Prayer
- Compassion and Care for the Poor
- Life with others in Community
- How might God be inviting you into deeper relationship with him and each other in this season of your life? Pray about it together.
