Choosing Prayer Over Busyness

Series

Spirit Teach Us To Pray | March 15, 2026

Speaker

Rob Hall

Rob deviated from our series through how the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray and shared a timely message through the story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42. Rob reminds us that prayer isn't just talking to God, it's placing ourselves in a position where we can receive from Jesus. When was the last time you let God minister to you in prayer?

Discussion Questions:

Warmup/Icebreaker

  • Describe a special dinner (birthday, event, etc) that you had to plan or host. Was anything stressful or frustrating? Did everything go as planned? Did your family/ friends help?

Reflect on the Message/ Scripture

  • Read Luke 10:38 - 42  What do you notice? Who do you connect with in the story?
  • What are some things you are worried and bothered by?
  • When does your busyness distract you from Jesus?
  • How do your frustrations affect your relationships?

Personal Connection

  • Prayer: Placing yourself in a position to receive from Jesus.
  • When does doing things “for” Jesus (or others) get in the way of sitting “with” Jesus?
  • When was the last time you slowed down, sat still, listened and let Jesus minister to you? How was it? What did you learn?

Practical Application

  • How might God be inviting you to sit with him and enjoy his presence?
  • What is your plan for Quiet Time, Fasting, Slowing down and silence with Jesus?

Group Prayer Time

  • As a group, pray that God would stir in our hearts a passion to simply sit with Jesus.  Pray and intercede for one another. Then, spread out and practice 5 mins of sitting quietly with Jesus- let Him pour his love and song over you.
Zephaniah 3:17: The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;  in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.
