How to Hear God's Voice

Series

A Praying Life | April 26, 2026

Speaker

Rob Hall

This Sunday, Pastor Rob taught on how to hear God’s voice. He reminded us that God is not silent, He speaks in several ways. But in a world full of noise and competing voices, it can be difficult to slow down, listen, and discern His voice. He pointed us to Psalm 1, which paints a picture of two ways of living. One rooted in God’s Word, leading to life and fruitfulness. The other shaped by the world, leading to emptiness. This week, we’ll practice slowing down, listening, and responding to God through Psalm 1.

Warm up

Reflect and share:

  • When you think about hearing God’s voice, what comes to mind?
  • What helps or hinders you from listening to God?

How God Speaks

Pastor Rob shared several ways God speaks to us:

  • Which of these have you experienced most: Scripture, the Holy Spirit, circumstances, godly counsel, or prayer?
  • Which one do you tend to neglect or struggle to trust?

Meditating on God Through Scripture

Read Psalm 1 slowly together.
Psalm 1:1–2
  • What voices or influences does this passage warn us about?
  • What does it look like to delight in the law of the Lord?
Psalm 1:3
  • Where do you see fruit or dryness in your life?
  • What does it mean to be like a tree planted by streams of water?
Psalm 1:4–6
  • What differences do you notice between these two ways of living?
  • What happens when we listen to voices other than God’s?
  • How does this truth shape the way you want to live?

Group Prayer

Take a few moments to close in prayer together.

Invite God to quiet your heart and help you listen. Ask Him to grow your desire for His Word. Pray for clarity to recognize His voice this week. Surrender anything that may be distracting or pulling you away from Him.
